equicast is a unique wrapping process that combines a knowledge of the physics of a horse's hoof with a specially-created fiberglass poly-blend cloth. Special resins and adhesives are imbedded in the cloth adding support the whole hoof capsule. This casting process creates stronger walls thus promoting better angles, shoes that stay on and most of all-sounder horses!

equicast is used for the treatment of long-toe low-heel syndrome, abscesses, toe and quarter cracks. It can also be used for white line disease, thrush, thin soled and walled hooves, lacerations, laminitis, and coffin bone fractures.

equicast can be used with shoes like conventional shoeing methods using nails, or glue or with cast alone. This benefits the horse that needs extra protection (cast) from hard training and/or surfaces or traction (shoes) and promotes stronger, healthy hoof growth. The unique wrapping process does not require any additional pads this keeps support where it is needed and moisture away from the sole and walls. equicast is a product that can be applied by a veterinarian, blacksmith, owner or trainer.

The success of equicast has been nothing less than spectacular. Because it can actually treat the cause of hoof lameness, equicast has prevented many difficulties from becoming career-ending injuries.

HOW EQUICAST WORKS

Newton’s third law of physics (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction) helps explains how and why we need to address the hoof wall. When the foundation (hoof wall) is not strong enough, or the hoof capsule is not placed in the center of the bony column, failure is inevitable.

Early in 1990, Dr. Fred McCashin of Southern Pines, North Carolina introduced Dave Richards to casting as a treatment for a severely foundered horse he had at his clinic. After seeing the immediate comfort and remarkable recovery that the cast gave this horse (adding temporary support to the hoof wall), Dave realized that this may be the answer to hoof wall failure. For the next 15 years he worked to developed equicast, an equine product and temporary support system to help restore hoof wall integrity and soundness to a failing/failed structure (hoof wall). After working on hundreds, if not thousands of cases with farriers, veterinarians, trainers, and owners, we developed a product successfully that addresses hoof wall problems.

Dave worked with specialists in cloth design and resins, a poly-cloth to create a resin that can stand up to the environment and the wear that horses put on their feet. The poly weave and thread are stronger and there is more resin in each roll than standard human casting tape. The process addresses both hoof wall failure and hoof lameness.

equicast takes hoof-care technology in a whole new direction. equicast wrapping process does more than manage hoof wall failure and hoof lameness. The patent-pending process treats the cause. Adding temporary support to the hoof wall gives nature a chance to grow a stronger and healthier hoof.
